Transfer of Personal Data

The Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO) (Cap. 486) ensures data protection and safeguards the free flow of personal data to Hong Kong from countries that have already implemented data protection laws without restrictions.

PDPO provides stringent and comprehensive regulation of transfer of data to outside Hong Kong. It expressly prohibits the transfer of personal data to places outside Hong Kong except in circumstances specified in the PDPO. This ensures that the standard of protection afforded by the PDPO to the data under transfer will not be reduced as a result of the transfer. This enhances trust and confidence of the ultimate customers of data centre service and is therefore conducive to the data centre business.

For more information on the PDPO, please refer to website of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data. It has also published a Guidance on Personal Data Protection in Cross-border Data Transfer.
